Using Green Screen Technology to Create Video Content

Everyone knows what a green screen is. You will have seen the results in cinemas, on TV, or online, but did you know that your next business video could be made using this method?

Using green screen technology allows you to replace the background in a video with any image or video you want. This technology is perfect for making your product more visible, for marketing purposes and for creating entertaining videos. Using green screen technology can be a very cost-effective and versatile method, as you can create lots of content of varying types in one comfortable and controlled environment.

But how can this work for you and your business?

  • Promote your brand

    • By speaking to your audience using green screen you can integrate the visual content of your product or service, immerse the viewer in your business and use a variety of backgrounds and branding to keep your viewer engaged and aware.

  • Talk to your team

    • Recording your message with green screen is a great way to create clear and engaging content, if you have to communicate with a large number of employees,  and delivering an annual round-up or seasonal message can be made a lot more interesting by adding video, images or graphics to illustrate your organisational goals and achievements.

  • Deliver engaging training

    • Whether it’s to induct or to train new staff, or it’s to refresh your current team, sometimes you need to deliver a lot of information in an on-brand and convenient manner. Using green screen technology allows the presenter to interact with video, diagrams and images, delivering consistant information at a convenient time while not disturbing the workforce or workspace.

  • Share your feedback

    • Using green screen for testimonials and case study videos is ideal as can bring your clients one central location and film them in a controlled environment, which is economical in terms of both time and money and also ensures professional and consistent results every time.

So, how does it work?

Essentially, the colour green is used as a background because it does not clash with skin tones and the shade we use is less likely to be in any clothing or accessories. When filming, every speck of this specific colour is turned transparent by electronic witchcraft using a process called keying before another scene is readied to be put in place where the green was.

The new background can be:-

  • An image of an office environment, stock or your own

  • Another film, i.e. one of your organisational promotion videos

  • A live stream from another camera, i.e. your product in action

  • Drone footage e.g. of your premises

  • Your company logo

…or whatever you want it to be!

We then edit the two elements together to create a single piece of content in which the new background sits behind the filmed person or object, syncing any sound at the same time. By using the green screen, you get content that looks realistic without looking like a bad photoshop job.

The content subject doesn’t even have to be a single person talking or an object either, it is only your imagination that limits the uses of green screen technology.

How do you make this technology work for you?

Here in Leith, we have a studio with green screen technology set up and ready to go, where we can add any background visuals and branding you or your team are looking to use.

So, when you want to discuss your next business video, create inspirational content for your organisation, or simply get a message across, come and have a chat with us and see what is possible.
